My backpack is a Osprey Kyte 46L. It weighs 3 lbs 4 oz. The recommendation is to limit your pack to 10% of your body weight. All summer I have had a growing pile of things I would like to take - today I did a trial pack and had to remove a few items. This is what I am left with:
Birkenstocks - wearing Asics Gel-Nimbus 12 running shoes
Rain pants and coat -Columbia
Fleece - Sun Ice
3 sets of underwear
3 short sleeve t shirts -2 are dri-fit one merino wool - one t shirt will have to double as pj's
1 long sleeve Columbia shirt
1 long sleeve merino wool base layer t shirt
2 pair of Columbia pants. One folds up to capris - other one is plain
1 pair Columbia shorts
1 hooded Columbia vest
1 pair merino wool base layer leggings
1 silk sleeping bag liner
3 pair lined smart socks
Micro-fibre towel and face cloth - Norwex
Sunglasses and reading glasses
Travel size body lotion, moisturizer, hair spray, sun screen, toothpaste , tooth brush and mascara ( vanity) Medication and vitamins.
Small itty bitty flat iron and small hair dryer.
Zippered it all up and did a final weight test - 13.6 pounds!! Perfect! I have done a few 25 k trial walks carrying 11 pounds without any trouble. I do know my shoulders will be my weakness.
Sid will be carrying all of the joint toiletries - small first aid , hand soap, shampoo - (doubles as detergent) all electronics, cables, adapters, required documents and guide book. His clothing selection is similar to mine , only boy stuff.
For electronics we are both taking our phones, and buying SIM cards in Spain so we can text each other in case one of us is temporarily lost. Also taking a small camera, iPad and iPod. Sid's pack (Osprey Kestrel 48L) weighs in at 22 lbs of which 7lbs are electronics!
Getting closer!!
