Burgos - Hornillos del Camino (pop 100) 21 km October 9

Yesterday afternoon we walked in a park in Burgos
So beautiful.
Sid in front of the bronze statue of elCid
We stopped for my first coffee of the day and watched a bit of the afternoon in Burgos.  A young fellow was trying to install a cable in what looked like a 500 year old building- and I was texting family at home, both phenomenal !

We have our last supper with Bronnie and Patricia and watch the new days pilgrims come into town
This morning we got ready to leave at our usual time....., every morning is a bad hair day. Then I missed the last step on the marble staircase coming down - ended up arriving in reception splayed on my tummy.  It wasn't pretty. My ego was badly injured and one kneecap is bruised, luckily had no time to brace for the fall, could have been so much worse.

It took us a full hour to walk out of Burgos, finding the yellow way markers was a bit like playing where's Waldo!  The first 10 km of the walk was through industrial area or in and around highway.  We stopped for breakfast at Tarjados. We continued on
Wednesday wash day
We notice some of the farm equipment parked in a shed with hay

We also notice the gray clay soil here
I listen to Cletic Thunder, which so far, none of the Irish folk I have talked to have even heard of them?
It is good camino music
We see our destination in the distance.  We are averaging 4 km per hour including breaks.
When we get to Hornillos we buy some refreshments at the local shop
We want to stay at el Molino, which is where the film crew stayed while filming the movie 'The Way'. El Molino is out of town and the guide book says to phone and someone will come and get you.  We show the above shopkeeper the number, he speaks no English but we are getting very good at charades so he calls and says someone will come in 10 minutes
We wait for 40 minutes on the sunny side of the street.  The high is 16 today, the morning was overcast and it is a bit windy.  While we are waiting we talk to a group of pilgrims from Italy and a father and daughter from Victoria BC .

Our ride eventually appears
And she drives us to el Molino.  It is about a 15 minute ride- we see that stop signs are only a suggestion and the 60 km speed limit in Spanish means 100km....
We have a great room and for the afternoon are the only ones here, we see that much luggage has arrived

so more folks must be on their way.  El Molino is a huge house /complex and looks like it is in constant need of some repair.  ( 78 euros including dinner, wine and breakfast ) It is very beautiful here.
Near our room
We are supposed to have wifi but so far have not been able to connect
The other guests arrive...about 15 women....doing the camino 3 days at a time two times a year.  Their dinner is in a separate room from ours.  So we are all alone...not that we are getting tired of each other or anything.....

We have a magnificent meal.

..cheese, ham, bread, vegetable soup. Followed by blood pudding, red and green tomatoes with olive oil, roasted green peppers ( long ones , not hot) eggs and tuna..an unlikely  combination but oh so good, tinto vino of course, and pork tenderloin with a surprise sauce. Yogurt and grapes for dessert.  Delish!
We notice that the label on the wine

is el Molino,we wonder if there is a nearby vineyard?  Our hosts speak really no English and our Spanish isn't good enough to engage in this conversation!

Breakfast is at 7:30 tomorrow am
It is worth mentioning that this place offers massages, which I thought would be really quite fine.  My previous  experience in a non English speaking environment has caused quite a bit of hesitation.  In the end I decide until someone can explain the dress code in a language I can understand I can't commit...
