Hotel Irache - Torres del Rio 24.1km October 1

Last night at our hotel enjoying our view:

I was sure I would starve to death waiting for an 8 pm meal being offered by nearby restaurants.  We took a walk to the local mercado and bought supper and some fine Irache wine
The multi grain baguette , meat and cheese was delish, as prepared by the chef ( in the above photo)

This morning we left our hotel at 7:45.  It was a bit rainy so we stopped to put our rain coats on but soon took them off as it was way too hot.  It showered off and on for most of the day, we chose dampness.

We have been enjoying the blackberries growing wild on the side of the path - little bursts of tastiness!
We stopped for breakfast after 4 km at Azqueta and had an omelet in fresh bread and coffee.  Oh my that tasted good!

We passed by the 13th century Fountain of the Moors with its distinct double arch

Sid was nearly in the fountain when he took the above picture!
Some of the scenery today
We mostly walked in rolling farm land.  The soil looks very clay-like, certainly not the black earth we have in beautiful central Alberta .
The above is a field of asparagus .

The trail is well marked and the availability of water is plentiful.  The camino is designed so that pilgrims walk through the historic parts of the country and villages
We had lunch in Los Arcos in the plaza and toured the adjoining Church of St Mary of the Arches
We arrive in Torres del Rio around two pm and check into the albergue Pata & Oca in the hotel part.  Very nice and ancient! Our abode has a connection to the Knights Templar

After a nap and a divine shower we do a walk about of the town and observe as new ( to us) way of lifting mortar to the work site
This wheelbarrow is filled at the bottom with mortar and lifted by crane to where it is being used!

Our teacher friends did not come this far today , we will miss them

We see that the Chairman Mao Nova Scotian connection has arrived here safe and sound!
My Spanish vocabulary has expanded to prolly 10 words already, now the trick is using them at appropriate times!
