Terradillos de los Templarios via Sahagun to Hermanillos de la Calzada (pop 200) 26.9 km October 14

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

Last night we had a delicious pilgrims meal of salad, spaghetti and tomatoe sauce with grilled fish.  It tasted very good.  When we went to bed it sounded like a blizzard outside...no matter we managed to sleep well.

We have a quick breakfast of some pre packaged non food items and more importantly coffee - and get started.  We can never be sure of our next food source!

I am so glad I am blogging - the village names are so unfamiliar, conversations about who was where and when, are hilarious, no one has much of a clue unless we consult our guide books and sometimes even then....

Today was a great day for walking , cloudy, still and not cold ( it would be nice to see the sun again)

More parkland prairie today....looks like lots of seeding, not sure if is multiple crop or winter seed?
I forgot to mention that yesterday we passed the half way point to Santiago .  It is also unimaginable that it is three weeks ago since we left home!
Sid has the camera for a while
We pass by these huts built into a hill
We cross a foot bridge  which is-

near a church
Our Lady of the Bridge Ermits Ermita Virgen del Punte

We come to the city of Sahagun ( pop 170,000). Well the guide book says 170,000 but we later google the population and find it to 2800!  That's why we walked through it so quickly...
It might have taken us 15 minutes to walk through the city.  We once again outsmarted our selves and got through the city before we realized it and missed our brunch break ( how many times do we have to learn this lesson already?!)
After 17.8 km (4 hours ) we stop for food and drink in Calzada de Coto.....too long in one stretch. A t this stop we meet an (older) fellow from the UK that we had met in Pamplona who then was travelling with a woman - they were NOT a couple , but they were scrapping.  Anyways they have separated and he seems happier...and I'm sure she is too!
The next 8.7 km are through the country

Sid is carrying a rain jacket that he picked up off the road that we think belongs to the (German )couple ahead of us.  When we meet them as they stop to put on rain gear and she is so grateful that Sid has her coat!  It did drizzle on and off today, no rain gear for us.  It's too hot and  as soon as it stops drizzling we dry off.  Tough Canucks !

When we get to our destination we check into this place
We have a private room (bunk beds) con bano ( with bathroom) 30 Euros

It is so clean and we walk past a kitchen where the cooks are very busy and it smells very good - I think our thanksgiving dinner will be delightful!

Before two o'clock ( siesta time) we make it to the super market
And eventually this fellow sorts out our yogurt, mandarinies, and crervasa
Pretty much what is behind him is the whole store.  I don't quite get the grocery situation here.

We are well
